The pressure on company management to meet the expectations of the capital market is a major source of recent corporate governance failures, scandals, and bankruptcies. Professor Jorgensen will present recent research on how the management of earnings to meet thresholds creates discontinuities in the distribution of earnings, earnings changes, and analyst forecast errors, rendering valuation difficult.
